Street Department

The Street Department is responsible for maintaining 352 city streets totaling 290 lane miles of pavement. There are over 60 miles of sidewalk as well as 116 miles of curb and gutter. Right of Way maintenance crews mow approximately 500 acres of roadside grass an average of 8 times a growing season, averaging over 4000 acres’ worth of wear on equipment annually.

and related infrastructure within the city.  Their goal is to ensure safe and functional roadways
for both residents and vehicles.

Key responsibilities include:

-Street Maintenance: This entails patching potholes, resurfacing roads, and maintaining the overall condition of the pavement.

- Sidewalk Maintenance: The department addresses issues such as cracked or damaged sidewalks to ensure pedestrian safety.

- Street Cleaning: They sweep and clean the streets, removing debris and litter to keep the environment tidy.

- Mowing: The department mows the grass in city street rights-of-way and on city properties.

- Painting: They are responsible for tasks such as line striping, curb painting, and marking school crosswalks.
