Located at 1501 Woodrow Drive, Dublin, GA, Hilburn Park is named after Kenneth Hilburn, a prominent local figure in Laurens County, who passed away in 1979. In October 2024, the park completed construction of an extensive new playground system atop soft turf, designed for heavy-duty impact absorption for years to come. It features a large pavilion with five picnic tables, two bench swings, and a small picnic table as you enter the fenced-in playground. Recent renovations will include two restrooms, a walking trail around the park, the school baseball fields (owned by the school system), and an open green space for relaxing and enjoying the scenery.
With plenty of parking, Hilburn is an ideal spot to watch a school softball game while the little ones run around the playground. In the evenings, it's the perfect place for people of all ages to play pickleball.
Located at 525 Charles Manning Sr. Way, Dublin, GA 31021, this facility traces its origins to Oconee High School, a historic segregated black high school that operated from 1952 to 1970. After the school closed due to integration, the gymnasium and football field remained and have since been turned into the Oconee Community Center. In August 2024, the gymnasium underwent a $3.9 million renovation and was renamed the Oconee Gymnasium. The renovations included a new indoor basketball court with six adjustable goals, new flooring on the stage, adjustable bleachers, an open classroom available for reservations or programs, two locker rooms, renovated restrooms, a fully functional staff office, a refreshed lobby and a new concessions area, as well as a newly upgraded weight room with equipment to serve all users and muscle groups.
