I want to update the citizens of Dublin regarding the actions that our City is taking to address security in neighborhoods recently impacted by gun crimes.
Today, June 2, 2026, the U.S. Marshals Service arrested a suspect involved in shootings in the Vinson Village area. The suspect, Dontavis Lovett, age 18 of Dublin, was apprehended in Charleston, South Carolina and is now being transported back to Laurens County. The City appreciates the cooperation and assistance provided by the Marshalls Service in bringing this fugitive into custody. Our police force is continuing to work with state and other law enforcement agencies to bring additional suspects to justice.
Regarding incidents that occurred on May 17th and May 25th, the Dublin Police Department recently arrested two suspects involved with the gun crimes. Those suspects are now in jail awaiting further charges.
The City Manager has authorized additional overtime for the police department to allow for increased and persistent patrols. The Laurens County Sheriff’s Department is assisting by providing additional manpower support. Police Chief Moon has also issued a directive adjusting the department’s chase policy to allow for additional pursuit of suspects in specific circumstances.
The City’s investment in gunshot detection devices has allowed the force to respond within minutes to each incident. The department is also actively using remote cameras, drones, and other technology to increase coverage of impacted neighborhoods. Myself and City Council members have actively engaged with our City Manager and Police Chief to make sure they have all the tools and support needed to keep our community safe.
We encourage citizens to come forward with any information that could help identify and locate suspects in these crimes. You can contact us anonymously through our Crimestoppers hotline at (478) 275-0803 or report a crime anonymously using the Dublin Police Department's Crime Text program by texting (478) 595-7279. You may also include links, photos, videos, and other supporting evidence in your report.
