The City of Dublin proudly celebrated Arbor Day with a community gathering focused on stewardship, service, and planting for the future on March 20, 2026. Hosted in partnership with the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center and the City's Tree Board, this year’s event highlighted both environmental commitment and gratitude for those who serve our nation—especially meaningful as the United States commemorates its 250th Anniversary.

The ceremony began with welcoming remarks from Chandra D. Miller, Executive Director of the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center, who highlighted the importance of community collaboration and planting trees, and how these actions impact our community for years to come.  An invocation given by our very own Fire Chief Cutler followed, setting a reflective tone for the celebration. The JROTC of Dublin City Schools led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance, underscoring the patriotic foundation of the day’s activities. A special reading was delivered by Mrs. Harriet Claxton, offering thoughtful reflections on conservation and community. Johnny Payne, a VA Certified Peer Specialist with the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center, shared special remarks connecting the value of service—both military and civic—to planting and nurturing trees. Members of the Dublin Tree Board, represented by Chairman Chip Wilson, also addressed the crowd, highlighting the city’s ongoing tree‑planting initiatives and how we can come together to Keep Dublin Laurens Clean. One of the key moments of the celebration was the official Arbor Day Proclamation Signing by Mayor Joshua Kight, reaffirming Dublin’s dedication to environmental stewardship and long-term planning. The event concluded with the ceremonial planting of this year’s Arbor Day tree: a Claudia Wannamaker Magnolia, chosen for its beauty, resilience, and significance to the region.

City officials expressed sincere appreciation for the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center—both for supporting the event and for their continued service to the community and the nation.

The City of Dublin extends its thanks to everyone who attended and helped make this year’s Arbor Day celebration special. Together, the community continues planting trees that will benefit future generations, so we can keep being green and growing!
