Bennie Jones of Dublin Appointed as President of GMA’s District 9

ATLANTA – Bennie Jones, Councilmember of the City of Dublin, has been appointed as President of the Georgia Municipal Association’s (GMA) District 9 for the 2026–2027 term.

Jones was officially sworn in during GMA’s Annual Convention held in Savannah from June 26-30.

“We are honored to have Councilmember Jones serve in this leadership capacity,” said Larry Hanson, CEO and Executive Director of GMA. “He brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and insight that will benefit the municipalities of District 9 and the entire GMA organization.”

As District 9 President, Jones will serve as a liaison between GMA and local municipal officials in the district. Responsibilities include assisting in the implementation of GMA policies, advocating on behalf of cities, and supporting efforts to strengthen local governance through training and networking.
District Nine stretches across east central Georgia into the lower coastal plain and includes the following counties: Appling, Bulloch, Candler, Dodge, Evans, Jeff Davis, Laurens, Montgomery, Tattnall, Telfair, Toombs, Treutlen, Wheeler, and Wilcox.

The 66-member board consists of active city officials, primarily mayors and councilmembers, from across the state. Seats are also designated for the presidents of the Georgia City-County Management Association, the Georgia Municipal Clerks Association, and the GMA City Attorneys Sections, as well as the chair of the Georgia Municipal Employees Benefit System Board of Trustees.

GMA’s Board of Directors provides general oversight and guidance to the 536-member organization, adopts governance policies and advocates for cities’ legislative interests at the state and federal levels.
